To conclude my studies at Chalmers School of Architecture I decided to focus my thesis (view Swedish website) on the subject architecture visualisation and the way computer aid is used when sketching and in the understanding and presentation of architecture.
The Swedish title translates to "VISUALISATION: Computer Aided Architecture Visualisation as a Method and a Product". The work is divided into two halves: a thesis (in the form of a discussion on the topic) and a handbook (an illustrated introduction to architecture visualisation). During the work on the thesis I also put together an interactive webpage, called the NCS Viewer that visualizes color components using NCS®© (Natural Color System). "All ideas are born in the mind of the originator. In the design process, the idea grows, is refined and clarified. In this course of events the design can be said to be visualised by the originator himself, for his own use. But to communicate a design to other people, it must be made concrete before it can be presented. The design has to be visualised." How does a visualiser work? Can technology be considered art? Does the visualiser need to have a degree in architecture? Do computer-aided design tools affect the final outcome of the design itself? Does a computer make talents in fine arts superfluous? These are examples of questions discussed in the thesis. |

(Swedish only, English abstract)
The thesis is only available in Swedish, but try having a look in the Visualisation Handbook that mostly consists of images. |
